WINDOWS "ME" WPC 11 VERSION 1 FIX

Linksys now has 3 versions of its wireless pc card
Version one is distinguishabale by its Green and Red Light
The "new" version 2.5, and version 3 card have 2 red lights
Installing the version "one" card can be problematic-
specifically for Windows Millenium (aka-ME) Operating Sysytems
To verify if the driver is installed correctly:
Go To Your Desktop
1- Right Click "MY NETWORK PLACES" and choose Properties
You will be at the Network Configuration Tab
2- Choose Linksys Wireless card
3- Choose properties
4- If you have an "advanced" tab --all is ok
5- If not continuue to the fix below:
STEP ONE:
1- Right Click "My Computer" and choose Properties
2- Choose Device Manager
3- Open Newtwork adapters-and choose the Linksys wireless card-
4- Choose Remove
5- When Prompted DO NOT REBOOT-SAY NO
6- Close Device Manager
STEP TWO: Double Click On the MY Computer Icon at your desktop
1- Choose TOOLS
2- Choose FOLDER OPTIONS
3- Choose VIEW
- CHECK "Show hidden Files and Folder"
- UNCHECK "Hide File Extensions for Known File types
4- Close My Computer
STEP THREE: Choose START- SEARCH- FOR FILES AND FOLDERS
1- Enter the following files,separated by commas just like below
2- NETCW10.INF, CW10.SYS, NDCPRTNS.SYS
3- Choose Search Now
4- There will be at least ONE instance of those files-Plus
The following file :InstantWirlessNETCW10.SYS
DELETE THEM ALL !
5-Empty recycle Bin-do it twice to verify it is empty
STEP FOUR: Put the CD for the Wirleless card in your CDROM
1- If it auto starts-choose cancel
2- Browse the CD-find the folder WPC 11
3- Then find the SUB Folder WIN9X
4- Copy and Paste this Folder to your C: Drive
5- Re Verify that it is there-then remove CD and REBOOT
STEP FIVE: RE-Installing the software
1- Windows will respond with an ADD NEW HARDWARE WIZARD
2- Choose to "Specify A Location"
3- It "should be " c:\WIN9x or browse your C drive to verify
4- Go ahead and Install-chooses Finish and re-boot
STEP SIX: LAST CHECK-IS THIS WORKING
1- Upon Reboot you should have the wireless Icon in your systray ( like before)
2- Again-Re Verify -Right Click My Network Places -and choose Properties
3- Highlight The Linksys Wireless card- and choose Properties
4- There should Now be an advanced tab
5- Open the Wirless Utility Icon-choose the Configuration Tab
6- Make sure it is set to Infrastructure with SSID of Linksys
LAST STEP: Getting on the Internet
1- Choose Start-then Run -Type Winipcfg-and choose OK
2- Under Ethernet Adapter Information-choose the wireless card(sometimes listed as Priism)
3- Ip address should be 192.168.1.100 -150
4- If Not Hit the RENEW BUtton
5- Hit More Info-second Line will be DNS servers
6- The address Here should match the DNS adress on the Status page of the Router Utilty(192.168.1.1)
7- if Not Reboot and do This LAST STEP Once MORE
8- If DNS for PC is not the same as DNS that Router Gets--CALL LINKSYS FOR MORE ASSISTANCE
